Bayonetta: Bad Music, Pole Dancing and Stripping

bayonetta-witchLet me start by stating that I really was fairly optimistic about Bayonetta but after playing the PS3 demo yesterday I cannot contain the disappointment I experienced with this game. Not because of the game mechanics or graphics but simply because of the main character, Bayonetta. As a guy gamer I enjoy great graphics and when that is accompanied by beautiful “Pixi-Chix” its just a bonus that adds to the visual experience. However, developers at Platnium Games just took it to another level that is ridiculous.

I have always found the character design of women in games equivalent to the wet dream of some horny teenager eager to lose his virginity while struggling with a porn addiction. Examples of this can be found in games like Dead or Alive, Muramasa, Ninja Gaiden, X-Blades, and the list goes on. However, its not all bad as there are some female characters are respectable enough that if you saw them in real life you would actually look at their eyes when talking to them rather their breast and assets. An example of the beautiful but angry Nariko from Heavenly Sword. Yes, she was sexualized too in some aspects but nevertheless was a believable character while Bayonetta is just too much. You would think that Platnium Games  should’ve just taken the biggest adult movie actress, make the character based on her and sign her on to help promote the game.  Truthfully and honestly, I do not think anyone would have told the difference.

Just playing the tutorial you could notice the way she moved when walking or standing still was ridiculous and an over-the-top sexualization of her assets. In the game , I was surprised as well by the amount of partial nudity especially when her clothing (which I supposedly heard was her hair as well) flies off her to transform into some big dragon head and chew up your enemies. There is even a pole from time to time you can spin around to kill enemies. I cannot say I am entirely surprised by most of this since I did see some video previews of it from time to time. However,  I never expected it to be so “in your face” constantly during the game.

The game itself seems fairly good overall with big boss fights, interesting fighting attacks and pretty good graphics. However, the main character design animations and the music of this game just screams stripper and raunchy making this feel like an uninspired game and a joke compared to upcoming God of War 3. I think if I want an experience revolving around a stripper I will save the 60 bucks, get a 10 dollar lapdance and put the remaining 50 towards Modern Warfare 2 rather than on a Devil May Cry knock off featuring an oversexualized Sarah Palin. I am curious to know what others felt.

I KNEW I wasn’t the only one who thought it looked like Sarah Palin lmao!!

I thought the demo was fantastic, I love the end boss fight, running on walls, dodging and quick combos.

I do share your disappointment with the main character, she looks like a desperate librarian, but the gameplay is good enough to seal a purchase for me.

It must suck being so uptight you can’t enjoy some tongue in cheek sexual humor. Also she looks nothing like Sarah Palin. It takes more then glasses and an up do to look like someone else.

also it;s funny uo bring up Devil May Cry as DMC3 has an actual strip club in it with a stripper pole you can swing on but I bet that didn’t bother you right?
